Colorado Engagement Photographer
Took the Fuji X100S out for a spin today for my engagement session with Jen and Gregg. We started at their home in Denver and then headed to the mountains just 15 minutes west. We took photos in the beautiful Colorado sun and used the unique landscape the state has to offer to create some artistic photos of the sweet couple. The X100S certainly was a treat to use through the entire session. I enjoyed getting to know the camera a little better, getting to know Jen and Gregg a little better, and I’m looking forward to being their wedding photographer this summer. Their wedding is going to be in quite a unique space… so be sure to click the “X100S” link at the bottom of this post and while you look through that street photography, take note of the tall clock tower in one of the photos. They are getting married at the top of it– literally right behind the clock faces.

Colorado Engagement Photography – Riverfront Downtown Denver
Every photoshoot I do is unique and I love that aspect of being a photographer– different people, with different personalities, different styles, different little nooks and crannies in the locations we go to, there’s always different light, etc. This “engagement” session with Cydney and Garret was different in all those usual ways, but the one thing that made this different than all that other stuff was they had just had their wedding. Yep, they had just come back to Colorado from Las Vegas where they had all their closest family and friends join them for a more intimate and fun time in Sin City. No sinning though– because they made it legit! So, I guess we should call it a “married couple photography session,” but that doesn’t quite roll off the tongue. Regardless, it was a great time (albeit, a little bit windy) as we bounced around downtown Denver in the Riverfront Park part of town. We got a nice mix of some unique and interesting urban photos and also took advantage of the gorgeous Fall day in Denver with the bright colors of the trees. Their dogs even joined us for some of the photography! Please enjoy!

Colorado Engagement Photographer – Denver Foothills
Amy and Ty came into town from the Houston, Texas area for a little fun in the sun of Colorado. While here they wanted to have a Colorado engagement photographer get some great engagement photos for them that were “Colorado” in nature. We headed just outside of Denver to the Foothills and did just that. They are such a fun couple—really playful and adventurous– so that made doing their portraits that much more fun. Here are just a sample of some photos that we got together.

Littleton Engagement Photographer
The Fall season in Colorado is an amazing time of year. The perfect time for me to head south just a bit out of Denver and into Littleton to take some beautiful engagement photos of this fun loving couple–Mitra and Scott. Engagement photography is always a blast, as it’s an opportunity to get creative and get a nice mix of some classic romantic photos and some unique artistic ones. As a photographer, I also love this time with my couples to get to know them even better and learn more about who they are and what their relationship is about. I absolutely loved hearing about Scott’s proposal to Mitra and we actually incorporated that common bond into some of our final photos together. So here’s the story– they both love tennis. Leading up to and while in NYC for the US Open, Scott gave Mitra one of the balls (see one of the last photos) each day. She thought maybe she was going to be treated to a surprise meeting with Federer or some other star she looks up to. Finally, while at the fountain in front of Arthur Ashe Stadium, he gave her the “Will You” ball. At first she thought it said “Will Call” and thought he scored some concert tix or the like. While bewildered and completely not expecting it, he got on a knee and finished the question. She said “yes” and here we are today. I can’t wait to re-connect with these two and photograph their wedding next year in the Denver Tech Center at the Hyatt Regency, which looks to just be a stunning place in their atrium.

Denver Wedding Photographer – Downtown Engagement
Heading into downtown Denver to get some beautiful engagement photos with Joaire and Charles was so much fun! I wasn’t quite sure if it was going to happen– as there was a tornado watch out and talk of some very threatening weather coming. We decided to throw caution to the wind and meet up anyway near the Denver Performing Arts Center to get some cool photography going for them. And boy, did we luck out! I don’t know what happened, but all I know was the weather turned out to be amazing! There was barely a cloud to be seen over Denver. I got to capture this gorgeous couple having some romantic moments around the Opera House and playing amongst the mix of modern and classic elements that dot our downtown. The best part is I get to do it again! Well… not their engagement photos and not in Denver, but I’ll be able to join Joaire and Charles for their wedding at the Black Bear Golf Club in Parker, Colorado next month. Knowing these two, it’s going to be an amazing time with a lot of amazing people!

Colorado Wedding Photographer – Downtown Denver Engagement
When I set out to do an engagement photoshoot in downtown Denver or in any place in Colorado for that matter, we typically pick a meeting place and then we just wander and I just look for the light, interesting architecture, beautiful colors, textures, etc. It’s usually without a specific plan. For this shoot with Robin and Sean, whose wedding I’ll be photographing coming up next month at Boettcher Mansion, the one thing I wanted to try was to play with some parking structures. To non-photographers (or maybe even some photographers) that may sound strange, but their structures allow for some interesting lighting, architecture, etc. Plus, there was one parking garage downtown that I had been to once many years ago, which I remember actually having a very nice view of downtown Denver (and the mountains too, but they ended up being obscured by clouds). So, rare as it is, I had a specific destination in mind–to mix in with our regular wanderings in search of nice light. Here’s the funny thing– Sean is a parking maniac! I don’t mean he parks cars with reckless abandon. But his career centers around PARKING! He’s the Manager of Parking Operations for the city of Denver. Spend an afternoon with Sean and you will quickly learn that the world of parking is very, very complex. It was just so serendipitous that I happened to pick parking as a focus of our shoot. Sean was actually a little hesitant… “Uh… you want to photograph us in parking garages? That’s going to feel like I’m going to work!” I asked him to trust me, things will turn out beautifully. In the end, I think it was a very good decision. Next, I’ll have to photograph them at a beautiful mansion… whatever will I do!?!?

City Park Engagement Photography – Denver Colorado
Sarah and Nick joined me recently at Denver’s City Park for their engagement photos. I had a really nice time with them as we wandered between the Museum of Nature and Science and The Pavilion. Coincidentally, I’ll be photographing one wedding at The Museum later this month and a wedding at The Pavilion later this summer. So, keep an eye out for photos from these same locations, in different contexts. Sarah and Nick will be having their wedding at Villa Parker in Parker, Colorado later this summer. It should be a really beautiful location and I’m really excited to join them there for their special celebration. Enjoy their engagement photos!

Red Rocks Engagement Photography – Brian Kraft Photography
I recently joined Erin and Sarah on a beautiful morning at Red Rocks, just outside of Denver for their engagement photos. It was a tranquil start to a lovely Colorado day and the three of us bounced around the picture-perfect area of Red Rocks for some fun photography. I’ll be their wedding photographer this Summer at City Park, which I’m really, really looking forward to. I have to say, it’s been a real shame that same-sex couples have been going through such hard times. The recent political games, in particular, right here in Colorado have been a real disgrace. As I recently saw quoted “It’s not a matter of if, but of when” and I think that couldn’t be more true. I have faith that before we know it, the controversy over the union of same-sex couples in Colorado and elsewhere will be a thing of the past. And for the sake of all couples, I can’t wait for that! For the time being, Erin and Sarah and all their loved ones are going to be celebrating just as hard (maybe harder!) this Summer, as the two of them express the love between them.

Engagement Photography – Denver – Alicia and Michael
Engagement photos are always so much fun. It’s always a great time to get to know my couples better before their wedding day. It gives the couple time to get used to being in front of the camera. And of course, most simply– we end up getting so many great loving photos for the couple to enjoy, that are different than just their wedding photos. I had met Alicia and Michael a few years ago when I did their family portraits. When they got engaged and it came time for them to think about who their wedding photographer should be, they immediately thought of me– which I’m, of course, very happy about! I’m so excited to create memorable photography for them this Fall when they tie-the-knot at Hudson Gardens, in Littleton, Colorado. But first, we headed down to the Platte River area in Downtown Denver and took a variety of fun engagement photos around, as well as inside of the REI building. It’s a really interesting area and can provide photographers various options- from more of an urban feel, as well as a softer more romantic feel with the natural landscape surrounding the building. Enjoy!

My Favorite Engagement Photos of 2011
It’s time to look forward to all the wonderful things that 2012 will bring. I’m so excited for the road ahead- in particular to witness and help in creating the magic that will undoubtedly unfold with the amazing couples I’ll be photographing in 2012! But first, let’s have a look back at the incredible year 2011 was. I’ve put together my “Best of 2011 Wedding Photos” here, but I also wanted to take a look at some of the highlights of the really fun and beautiful engagement sessions I did with couples around Denver and parts of Colorado. There were so, so, so many great moments, so it was unbelievably challenging to narrow it down to just these engagement photos. If I tried again tomorrow, it would likely look like a pretty different collection of photographs, and again if I tried a week later. You’ve got to be ruthless with these, otherwise you end up with the longest blog post known to man! A big cheers to all my wonderful couples- past, present, and future! It’s a real pleasure to be your photographer!

Colorado Engagement Session – Krista and Jethro
Krista and Jethro came out to Colorado from Pennsylvania to have some fun Colorado adventures, including doing an engagement session with me. We scheduled it on the exact date, 1 year prior to their wedding date. That added even more significance to our time together– sort of like a “pre-anniversary” photoshoot. Krista and Jethro were, without a doubt, a blast to be with. Things started out a little rough given that there were heavy downpours, but we were all feeling like nothing could get us down– not even a little (ok, a LOT) of rain. We started out under various overhangs and ventured out when it became a drizzle. Eventually, it cleared and we were greeted by a beautiful full double rainbow (what does it mean!?). And after spending time in downtown Denver, we headed more towards the mountains and with a change of clothes into their informal wedding attire, we took additional photos in the Colorado foothills. As the photos show, Krista and Jethro are very much in love and with their free spirits, we had such a great time!

Engagement Photography- Lizzie and Dan
Lizzie and Dan are a super, super, suuuuuuper sweet couple. I’m really looking forward to their wedding this Summer at the Grant-Humphreys Mansion in Denver We had a fun time meeting up in Downtown Denver for their engagement session. The happy couple and I bounced around to several cool locations in the area of town near Confluence Park. Boy, those Colorado winds were seriously whipping around that day. They were troopers and hardly seemed bother by it one bit. We did a lot of fun and creative things to get many wonderful and interesting photos for them. As a photographer, it’s always such a treat when the couple you are photographing is so relaxed with each other and with you. I have the highest regard for Lizzie and Dan and I like to think they share a similar enthusiasm for me. They’ve recently given me the nickname “The Jedi Master” so I think I must be doing something right by them. Haha… I like it!

Red Rocks Engagement Photography
Just outside of Denver is an amazing place– Red Rocks Amphitheater. It has to be the most picture perfect place in Colorado to see concerts. Not only does it offer great music, but is a wonderful place to admire the beautiful scenery while hiking, biking, running, or just having a relaxing day out in nature. It’s also the perfect backdrop for photography– for an engagement session or for wedding photography. I went there with a nice couple, Amy and Aaron, whose wedding I will be photographing this Summer in Breckenridge. We had a very nice time together– getting to know each other better, discussing details of the wedding, and it gave them an opportunity to become comfortable in front of the camera. Spending a couple of hours photographing couples before their wedding always proves to make the day of the wedding photography so easy for the couples. They know exactly what to do- whether it’s just being themselves during candid moments or falling into very natural poses. Here are some of their photos. Denver Engagement Session
Engagement sessions are so much fun. Most of the couples whose wedding I’m photographing also join me to capture more casual moments between them. We sometimes do more natural settings, in the mountains of Colorado, etc., but sometimes we photograph in a more urban setting. Downtown Denver is always so much for me as a photographer. There’s such an assortment of colors, textures, architecture, angles, etc. This photo shoot with Christine and Zach was great fun and I can’t wait to photograph their wedding this Summer against the Foothills of the Rockies. Check out more Engagement Session Photos here.

Kim and Sean Engagement
A very playful couple having fun in Fall time by the lake. A bit of a contrast to the destination wedding I’ll be joining them for in Mexico in the Spring.
